It’s fair to say that skills-based hiring and AI were ubiquitous at the event this year. But what was dramatically different this year, was that in 2023 these new approaches were arriving, but in 2024—they have firmly arrived.
In his keynote, Josh Bersin reminded us that AI companies are not just software companies. They are data companies. The more data that companies have to train their AI models, the more effective they are.
Despite economic and geo-politcal turbulence, we heard how the gap between GDP and productivity was getting wider—highlighting that all companies are becoming increasingly productive.
But with all of the talk of innovation, efficiency, and productivity, leaders were challenged not to forget the “H” in HR. Ensuring that the human is always at the centre of a fair, inclusive, and well-considered candidate experience.
With the frequency and scale of disruptions growing, it was evident that organisations need to get ahead of future problems, innovating with skills-based hiring and AI while they can, and not wait until when they need to.
Leaders must ask “what if” now so they never need to ask “now what” in the future.
